Batch Your Content (Make Many at Once)

Updated July 21, 2026·4 min read

What it is

Content batching means grouping the same kind of task and doing it in one block: write all your captions, then shoot all your photos, then edit all your clips — instead of taking each post from blank page to published before you start the next one.

You're organizing by mode, not by finished piece. One tool open, one type of thinking, many outputs — then you switch modes once and move to the next block.

Time & frequency

One batching block per mode, once a week or per content cycle. Batch a week's posts in a sitting.

How to do it

  1. 1List every piece you owe for the cycle — all the posts, videos, or emails — in one place.
  2. 2Split the work by mode, not by piece: writing, filming, photo editing, scheduling. Those are your batches.
  3. 3Do one batch start to finish. Write every caption before you open the camera. Stay in that one mode.
  4. 4Keep the tools for other modes closed. Every time you open the editor 'real quick' mid-writing, you've switched modes.
  5. 5Move to the next batch only when the first is done. Shoot everything, then edit everything.
  6. 6Park stray ideas for other modes in a note instead of chasing them. They'll be there when that batch comes up.

Why it works

Each time you jump from one kind of task to another — writing to editing to scheduling — your attention has to disengage from one set of rules and tools and re-lock onto another, and that changeover costs time. Batching keeps you in a single mode so you pay that switching cost once per block instead of on every piece.

The American Psychological Association's summary of task-switching research describes exactly this pattern: people lose time when they switch from one task to another, and lose more of it as the tasks get more complex.

Common mistakes

  • Fake batching — writing a caption, then 'quickly' editing that one photo, then back to writing. That's the switching you were trying to avoid.
  • Batches too big to finish in one sitting, so you leave a mode half-done and have to re-load it later anyway.
  • Leaving every app open 'just in case.' The open editor is a standing invitation to switch modes.
  • Batching similar-looking tasks that actually use different tools — treat 'write' and 'design' as separate blocks, not one.

Practice it now

Batch One Week of Posts

A single sitting that turns a week of scattered content into three clean mode-blocks.

  • List every post you owe this week in one note.
  • Block one: write every caption, top to bottom, nothing else open.
  • Block two: shoot or gather every image at once.
  • Block three: edit and schedule them all in a row.
  • Notice that you only changed tools twice instead of on every post.
